The Town Assessor is responsible for establishing assessments on all real property located within the Town and Village of Allegany. Assessments are based on a Uniform Percentage of market value established each March 1st. The Assessor is required by the Real Property Tax Law, Sections 301 & 305 to keep the assessments uniform.

Board of Assessment Review
The Board of Assessment Review, BAR is made up of 3-5 members, appointed for 5 year terms. The BAR meets once a year to hear Grievance applications from property owners who disagree with the assessment of the value of their property as it appears in town records.
The Grievance Day in Allegany is usually the 4th Tuesday in May. The Town Assessor prepares the Tentative Roll in March. The town of Allegany completed a 100% revaluation in the year 2004 and the Town updates the assessment values each year in order to maintain equity among taxpayers.
