The Association was established during the community's Sesquicentennial celebration of 1981 for the purpose of collecting materials and artifacts pertaining to the history and development of the Allegany area. The Education Department of the University of the State of New York granted an Absolute Charter on December 10, 1987.
We hope to reopen the building and start holding regular meetings and programs in 2022. Please stay tuned for updates about the reopening. We will be open the following Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: 7/16, 8/6 (ACS Reunion), 9/17, and 10/15. We are hoping to resume our programs, the annual cookie sale, and our community christmas service this fall. In the meantime you can message us on our FACEBOOK PAGE or E-MAIL US for an appointment. We are also looking to put together a phone list of people interested in helping, when needed, to clean the center, file materials, and other necessary things that need to be done to keep us going. Contact us at Alleganyheritagecenter@gmail.com to let us know if you would be able to join in this effort. |

The Association's permanent meeting site and shelter for historical artifacts is in the former United Methodist Church located at 25 N. Second Street in the village of Allegany. The church, a local historical landmark, was constructed in 1855 by the Methodist Episcopal Congregation, one of the earliest religious societies in the village. The Association now owns the building. The layout of the church has been preserved, including the original pews and pulpit.
