In August of 1998 the Allegany Police and Fire Department included the use of ACER (Allegany Community Educational Robot) to help to provide public safety and education programs to residents in our community.

ACER is a robot from the ARES III (Auxiliary Robotic Education System), a product of 21ST Century Robotics, a company located in the State of Georgia. ACER is 5'8" tall, 31" wide, weighs approx. 175 lbs, and is considered a technological wonder used in crime prevention and child safety programs. Statistics prove that audiences who encounter robots retain up to ten times more information than through ordinary methods. ACER leaves lasting impressions so that when children are faced with difficult choices such as peer pressure, they remember that "ACER" taught them to say "No" to drugs, to "Stop, Drop and Roll", or to stay away from strangers.
ACER is currently being used to help with Fire Prevention and Education, Seat Belt Safety, Bicycle Safety, Gun Safety, Stranger Safety and many other informational programs. ACER has been used at the Allegany Limestone Elementary School, Sonshine Christian Nursery School, Wal-Mart Department Store, BJ's Wholesale Club, K-Mart Department Store, Home Depot Store and at other various events in the area. Steven Boser, a former member of the Allegany community, was a major contributor for this project and through his commitment to educating the youth of our community, ACER was able to be purchased.
