Welcome to the official Web Site for the Village of Allegany, New York.

The Village of Allegany is located along the banks of the Allegheny River in southern Cattaraugus County, New York. Allegany is the most densely settled village in the county. It is the smallest in terms of size, but the second largest village in terms of population. The Village of Allegany is surrounded by the Town of Allegany, a separate municipality.

Allegany has an historic downtown, which is surrounded by residential neighborhoods. It is unique among the villages in the county because it is adjacent to St. Bonaventure University, the county's only private, four-year university. The University has a large impact on the village's economy both because it employs village residents and because students and faculty support local businesses and live in the community.

Public services include municipal water supply and sewage treatment. The Village has its own water supply system, which also provides municipal water to parts of the Town of Allegany. The village's sewage is treated by the City of Olean Sewage Treatment Plant. The Village provides snow removal from streets and sidewalks, spring and fall yard waste pick-up and other various services from the public works department. The Village also provides garbage pick-up.

The village has a professional police force and receives fire, medical and rescue services from a local volunteer fire department. An elementary school is located in the village and a state-of-the-art junior and senior high school a short distance outside of the village.

Access to the village is ideal. The village line is approximately 1/2 mile from an interchange of Interstate 86, a major east-west roadway. Route 417, a state roadway, runs the length of the village.
