Criminal Unit
The Criminal Unit is commanded by the Chief of Police: responsible for criminal investigations. The Criminal Unit comprises of the Chief of Police, Senior Investigator and the Investigator.
Senior Investigator

Responsible for: supervision of the Investigator and Patrolmen conducting criminal investigations; conducts criminal investigations; reviews every criminal complaint made to the department; interrogations of suspects or witnesses; assists other agencies in investigations and other matters; coordinates extradition; interrogations of suspects or witnesses; gathering evidence; review and/or preparation of reports and files for District Attorney�s Office; takes control of all evidence of the department.
Investigator

Responsible for: assisting the Senior Investigator; interrogations of suspects or witnesses; gathering evidence; review and/or preparation of reports and files for District Attorney�s Office; assists in reviewing criminal complaints made to the department; assists other agencies in investigations and other matters; assist in coordinating of extradition; assist in supervision over Patrolmen conducting criminal investigations as needed.

Juvenile Unit
The Juvenile Unit is commanded by the Chief of Police: responsible for juvenile related activity. The Juvenile Unit comprises of the Chief of Police and the Juvenile Officer.
The Juvenile Unit is intended to initiate, promote and maintain a central record keeping system that records contacts, arrests, dates, ages, sex, time of day, time of year and other information deemed necessary by the Juvenile Officer. To continue developing an ongoing process of keeping records of youth problems by maintaining close contact with County agencies, schools, and other youth establishments and to take preventive or corrective action when appropriate.

The general duty of the Juvenile Officer is to assist members of the public and fellow officers of the Police Department in matters involving youths. The Juvenile Officer must also keep fellow officers well versed in the legal specifics of dealing with youths. In all instances, the physical well being of a child whether victim or offender is of particular importance.
Bike Patrol and Community Policing

Bike Patrol
The Allegany Police Department provides a Bike Patrol Unit for various community events. The Bike Patrol is used at the annual Firemen's Old Home Week. Heritage Day's, and on the Bike Trail in Allegany. Bike Patrols are also used for Routine Patrol in the village at various times during the year.
Community Policing
The Allegany Police Department provides assistance and information on setting up Community Policing Programs for any groups and or organizations interested. Senior Patrolman Timothy Peterson is the current contact person for this program. Sr. Ptlm Peterson can be reached at the Police Station at 373-0873.
