Fire Prevention And Education Program
The Allegany Engine Company sponsors a Fire Prevention and Education Program for the youth and adults of our community. Fire Prevention and Education Coordinator Dominic Papasergi has organized and designed various fire preventive and educational programs that are used to help teach the youth and adults of our community to be fire safe.
Fall
In the month of October, during Fire Prevention Week a Poster Contest is held. Allegany Elementary Students in Grades 1 - 5 are asked to participate. The youths who participate are asked to color posters with a fire prevention theme; the posters are then judged by the firemen and prizes are awarded. 1ST, 2ND, and 3RD Place Prizes are awarded to youths from each grade, with two Grand Prizes also being awarded. The Grand Prizes are awarded for the best poster in Grades 1 - 3 and the best poster in Grades 4 - 5. The Five Star Bank in Allegany donates two $50.00 Savings Bonds to be presented to the Grand Prize Winners. Elementary students also participate with many fire preventive activities designed by their teachers and these students are awarded for their participation with a pizza party or ice cream type social at the end of the week. The firefighters also stop at Kindergarten classes to show students their fire gear and talk about fire education. Hat's off to the Elementary School Teachers for their participation in teaching the youth of our community about fire safety.
Spring
In the month of May, Fire Station Tours and Fire Prevention and Education Talks are conducted at the Allegany Fire Hall. Students from the Allegany Elementary School and Sonshine Nursery School attend these talks. At this event youths are given a fire prevention and education talk and are then given a tour of the Fire Station where they are shown and talked to about fire trucks, ambulances and the various equipment associated with them. The Fire Station Tours have been a big success and are enjoyed by all involved, firemen, youth, teachers and parents. ACER the Robot is the main speaker for the Prevention and Education Talks.
